🌱 Our mini farm started as an overgrown vacant lot, but with months of hard work from our Farm Director and dedicated Changeagents ( we ❤️❤️❤️ you) — hauling water, planting, building beds, and clearing weeds — it has blossomed into a vibrant space for connection, nourishment, and hope. And this is only the beginning; we’re excited to keep feeding, teaching, and growing together. These pics are from our first every harvest bash where we fed the community fajitas and passed out a bag of fresh groceries from @blackoakscenter for free ❤️ We played games such as scavenger hunt, and guess the seeds, discussed what we want to plant on the new space we received next-door from our neighbor and built connections with the community ❤️ We want to feed the community and teach the neighborhood how they came have a similar set up in their mini space offering free educational classes. Huge thanks to the 50+ families who took part in the ribbon cutting for Social Change’s mini-farm in Englewood and were served through our 1st Annual Harvest Bash Sunday 🌱☀️ We planted, learned, connected, and celebrated what happens when a community comes together to feed and uplift its own. We gave fresh groceries from Black Oaks Farm to the neighbors who came out — and even walked the block, delivering bags door to door. Special thanks to: • State Senator Mattie Hunter for attending, cutting the ribbon, and sharing how important efforts like these are to address food insecurity • Ken Berry and his team at Winston & Strawn LLP for securing the land for us • Social Change’s Farm Director Jessica Joyner, along with Tanya Pietrkowski, Maricela Tapia, and dedicated neighbors who, for months and months, did everything from bringing in water daily (we still haven’t been granted water access from the city) to spreading mulch, building and positioning raised beds, planting, de-weeding, harvesting, and so much more — turning an overgrown vacant lot into a vibrant mini-farm that is part of the solution to food insecurity. This garden is here to fight food insecurity, create green space, teach growing skills, and ensure every family has access to fresh, healthy food right in our neighborhood. Everything starts with an idea, and it’s beautiful to watch it grow in reality. We wish more neighbors could have joined us, and we look forward to welcoming even more of you into the movement.
