We’ll be at State Senator Lakesia Collins’ @senlakesiacollins 6th Annual Mother’s Day Celebration with something fun at the Social Change table Sat. May 9th at noon-5pm 💚
Start your day at our hands-on garden station where kids and families can make their own mini garden using recycled newspaper pots 📰🌿
Roll it, fill it, plant it, decorate it, and take it home to grow together.
We’ll also be sharing resources for moms and families including free legal help, food access, and more, plus some extra goodies at our table 🛍️
Don’t miss the raffles 🎟️
Kids can enter to win something for their mom, or moms can enter for themselves 💝
This is a full community event, so come enjoy everything, not just us. Bring the kids and make a day out of it 🫶🏽

Art at the Farm is this Saturday 🎨🌱share this 🙏
We’re bringing color to the space by painting tree stumps and raised beds, and getting everything ready for the season. Come through, get creative, and be part of building something that stays.
We’ll also be lining mulch, planting, and getting the beds ready, so there’s something for everyone.
If you have any leftover house paint, paint, or spray paint sitting around, bring it with you or DM us so we can pick it up. We’ll put it to good use.

Most people walked in unsure about urban gardening… and left knowing exactly how to do it 🌱
At our workshop with AmeriCorps Seniors, led by Jess, our Director of Rural and Urban Affairs, we kicked things off with a quick pre-quiz and many didn’t get the answers right.
But after getting hands-on, asking questions, and learning together they took that same quiz again and got it right.
That’s what access to real, practical knowledge looks like.

We’re outside all summer 🌱
Every Saturday we’re opening up the Social Change Farm for Community Farm Days. Come help us build, plant, and take care of the space, then stay, hang out, and just enjoy being together.
We’ll also have free farmers markets during Farm Days so you can take fresh food home with you.
In May, we’re adding Art Days too 🎨
We’ll be painting the tree stumps and benches and bringing more life and color into the farm.
This is about more than gardening. It’s about growing food, building community, and creating something that’s ours.

Food rescuing is one of our favorite initiatives at Social Change 💚
We’re excited to share that we’ve partnered with 40 Acres Fresh Market @fortyacresfreshmarket to recover fresh, high-quality food that would otherwise go to waste and get it directly into the hands of our community via Love Fridges. @thelovefridgechicago
In just one month, we’ve already rescued over 350 pounds of food. That means more meals, less waste, and more access to fresh options for families across Chicago.
This work is about more than food. It’s about dignity, sustainability, and making sure our communities have what they need to thrive.

We’re excited to be part of this year’s AmeriCorps Seniors Annual Multi-Training on Thursday, April 16 🌱
This one is for seniors in the Foster Grandparent Program. We’ll be sharing what we’re building through the Social Change Community Farm with a hands-on garden demonstration led by our amazing Director of Rural and Urban Affairs, Jess Joyner.
Seniors will learn how to grow their own food in small spaces, understand soil health, and ask questions along the way. During each session, we’ll also be raffling off grow bags and seeds so a few folks can get started right away.

As we celebrate Second Chance Month, we have to also talk about the second chances are.
We live in a society that loves to condemn—and condemn for life.
So, even after completing the sentence for mistakes, that judgement—and the pain and loss it causes—remains.
But redemption is real.
And Second Chance Month highlights the massive universal harm that lifetime condemnation causes while also shining a light on the necessity of providing real pathways for people who have turned their lives around to demonstrate it.
And the even greater need to showcase real life redemption stories so people are reminded of the magic that can occur when lifelong barriers are removed from people who have turned their lives around.
